AHAB

On November 17th Pejac will be releasing his latest limited edition print, Ahab, a familiar image the artist presented as a bronze sculpture at his 2016 London show, as well as charcoal and pencil drawing on paper. It is the later that will be released as a hand-finished limited edition, large scale print, produced in an entirely new format for the artist.

Ahab depicts a whale hunter maneuvering a harpoon from the top of a huge humpback whale which is escaping the deadly spears through the depths of the ocean. Borrowing the name and the image from a fictional character from Herman Melville's book Moby-Dick, Pejac is pushing the representation of human fanaticism, transforming which could be a whale hunting scene into an image of poetic justice and redemption. The lonesome human operating a whale-killing weapon on top of a majestic animal that was once hunted to the brink of extinction becomes a symbol of protection and life.

The print will be produced in an edition of 20 copies only, each of them hand finished with color pencils by the artist. Measuring 121,5 x 165 cm each example is made from 2 hand-pulled photopolymer prints on Hahnemühle white paper 350 gr, which are then mounted on 2mm Dibond aluminium, guaranteeing lightweight and rigidness of the artwork. Further on, each example comes signed and numbered by the artist.

This limited edition will be released through a lottery system. Everyone who would like to purchase a print can enter their information. All participants will receive an Ahab postcard with a reproduction of the artwork as thanks for taking part in the event.

The sale will be open for 24 hours from NOW until 5 pm CET of November 18th via this webpage. Ahab postcard entry tickets on thick cardboard will be sent to the buyers in December, and the money collected from the lottery sales will be donated to the NGOs Whale And Dolphin Conservation and Fundación CRAM working in defence and protection of whales and marine environment. The winning ticket holders will be contacted via email on November 19th with further information on how to proceed with the purchase.
